Terms of Use

These conditions govern every use of Lancaster County Criminal History. Opening a page, reading its material, or submitting a query means that you agree to these terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the website.

NO FCRA USE. Lancaster County Criminal History is privately operated and has no connection to a local, Virginia, or federal government body. Neither the website nor its advertising partners offers a service intended for credit decisions, employment screening, insurance underwriting, tenant screening, or another purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The website identifies criminal-record access resources in Lancaster County, Virginia. It is neither a private investigation firm nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

Lancaster County Criminal History is a private reference website, not a government office. It does not keep official criminal records, order official checks, retrieve files, or submit court documents for a visitor.

Its role is to identify record custodians and access routes, including the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, Lancaster courts, the Virginia Department of State Police Criminal Justice Information Services Division, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Some pages also connect visitors to tools operated by outside companies.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use is conditioned on lawful, responsible conduct. You may not:

  • Use the website in violation of federal, Virginia, or local law
  • Threaten, stalk, or harass anyone with information found here
  • Use content for hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions
  • Attempt unauthorized access to any website system
  • Deploy bots, scrapers, or other automated collection tools
  • Disrupt service or interfere with another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information from Lancaster County Criminal History or a linked tool may not be used to stalk, threaten, intimidate, harass, or unlawfully discriminate against a person. Virginia law applies special safeguards to the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Va. Code § 9.1-918 prohibits unauthorized use and intimidation or harassment involving registry information, and a willful violation is a Class 1 misdemeanor. Registry access supports lawful public-safety awareness, not vigilante action or prohibited decisions.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Lancaster County Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. It does not create credit reports, consumer reports, or background checks. Its advertising partners do not provide tools here for evaluating job applicants, rental applicants, insurance eligibility, or creditworthiness. Information from this website or a linked tool must not be used to:

  • Make a hiring or termination decision
  • Evaluate a renter or housing applicant
  • Set an insurance rate or judge creditworthiness
  • Determine eligibility for a license, permit, or public benefit
  • Carry out any other purpose regulated by the FCRA

When an authorized purpose requires an official check, use the proper Virginia Department of State Police channel or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

General information about Lancaster County records is not legal advice. The website cannot determine how a charge, conviction, warrant, sealing rule, or expungement rule affects an individual matter. Obtain advice from an attorney licensed in Virginia.

6. No Warranties

All content and functions are supplied "as is." No warranty is made that:

  • Outside search results will be complete or correctly matched
  • Every page will remain free from errors or security weaknesses
  • Information will always be complete, accurate, and current
  • The website will remain continuously available

Criminal records change as charges are filed, dismissed, sealed, or expunged. Gaps and delays can occur. Nothing published here is an official statement from the Lancaster County sheriff, a court, Virginia State Police, or any other government agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to Lancaster County offices, Virginia court portals, state agencies, legal resources, and outside search services. The destination is independently operated. Lancaster County Criminal History does not control its content, availability, charges, or data practices and accepts no responsibility for them. Review the destination's terms before using it.

8. Intellectual Property

Website text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Lancaster County Criminal History or its content partners. You may not reproduce, distribute, alter, or create derivative material from that content without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, Lancaster County Criminal History is not liable for damages arising from use of the website, its information, or a linked service, including reliance on any result.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold Lancaster County Criminal History harmless from a claim, action, or demand arising from your use of the website or violation of these terms, including related legal fees and costs.

11. Governing Law

Virginia law governs these terms. Any dispute arising from use of Lancaster County Criminal History must be brought in a court located in Virginia. These terms do not enlarge access to official files: the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, including Va. Code § 2.2-3706, governs qualifying law-enforcement records, and Va. Code § 19.2-389 restricts dissemination of state criminal-history information.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised at any time. A revised version becomes effective when it is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or terminated at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in effect. The affected provision will be modified only as far as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
